Allstate recently announced that since 2009 it has contributed more than $1 million to HBCUs and their students through its annual Quotes for Education (QFE) program.hbc I owe u

A recent Gallup survey explores the positive impact of HBCUs on African-American students. Far too often, HBCU students are unable to afford their dream of attending college and earning a degree. So for the seventh year, Allstate is encouraging the HBCU community to pay it forward through the program to raise scholarship funds for students.

Allstate is also introducing current Delaware State University junior, Sharnada Martin, as its first-ever QFE Student Ambassador. A 2014 program scholarship recipient, Martin credits HBCU supporters who contributed to the QFE program for helping her succeed.

“The extra financial support that I received through Allstate’s Quotes for Education program ensured that I was able to focus more on my academic success and less on how I would pay for school,” said Martin. “Knowing that my education directly benefitted from this program makes me passionate about encouraging everyone to join Allstate in investing in the future of HBCUs and its students.”

To contribute in the program, which ended November 30, participants needed only to receive a free Allstate quote, mention the program, and $10, up to a total of $200,000, is donated to support HBCU students. All donations went toward the Tom Joyner Foundation, which is in its fifth year of partnering with Allstate on the program.

“With more than 100 institutions across the country, HBCUs have a heritage and history worth investing in and protecting,” says Tom Joyner, a Tuskegee University alumnus and chairman and founder of the Tom Joyner Foundation. “During these trying economic times, the annual scholarship gives hope and helps these students continue to strive for academic success.

Additionally, the public can vote online for their school of choice to win an additional $50k in scholarships. Allstate will officially announce the winner of fan vote this January.

In addition to its QFE partnership with the Tom Joyner Foundation, Allstate has been the title-sponsor of the Allstate Tom Joyner Family Reunion, which happens each year over Labor Day Weekend. Both of these programs are part of Allstate’s year round commitment to programs that empower the African American community.

Editor's Note: In an attempt to help define the economic impact of HBCU supporters, Onnidan.com has posted the above article to help show Allstate and others how HBCU directed media can get help company programs better reach their targeted audiences.
